Dr. Kim Burns

November is a time when many of us reflect on what we are grateful for. In addition to being a tradition during this time of year, there is evidence that practicing gratitude enhances our long-term happiness, increases our emotional well-being, improves our relationships, and improves our effectiveness at work. With this in mind, I thought I would share how I’m showing my gratitude and what I am grateful for.

Here are some ways I am showing my gratitude

  • Sending thank you cards to people who have shown me tremendous support
  • Noting what I am grateful for in my journal
  • Donating to organizations whose work I value
  • Asking everyone sitting around the table during Thanksgiving dinner what they are grateful for. This annual tradition works well with adults, but not so much with our teenagers/young adults
  • Verbalizing my appreciation of the people around me

Here is a list of what I am grateful for right now

  • Vaccines are allowing us to gather with family this Thanksgiving
  • My coach training classmates and mentor coach from around the country who teach me new things all the time
  • My clients – all of whom want to make the world a better place
  • Coaches and consultants who have been so generous with their time and support as I build a business
  • Daily walks with my husband and Teddy the Wheaten Terrier
  • The dogs in our neighborhood that know I keep treats in my pockets
  • The many birds visiting our bird feeder
  • Allergy-friendly chocolate
  • Pumpkin bread
  • Hot tea
  • Books
  • My Libby app that allows me to support my local library
  • Naps
  • Adele
  • Netflix & Apple TV+
  • You, for reading this and joining me on this journey
