Dr. Kim Burns

My last post was about a few of my favorite productivity tools. I love that stuff.

I read books about productivity. I follow the topic on social media. I listen to podcasts. I tinker with apps. I’m always trying to learn new ways to streamline my habits. That is just the nerd that I am.

But productivity in a pandemic is a very different ball game.

When I set my goals for this year, I added relationship goals. I’ve never done that before. My long-range planning has always focused on career and education. I didn’t even know you could set relationship goals.

My introverted self is content working and teaching from home. It’s not too bad. But I miss people. I miss seeing my family, friends and colleagues. Our rituals and traditions that I treasure have been disrupted. So, I made a commitment to connect. I don’t want to come out of this pandemic with neglected relationships.

The result? Walks and Zooms with friends and family. Phone calls. Texts. During the warmer weather, I gingerly engaged in outdoor dining. Golf. Conversations at the fire pit. Lately, I’m having a blast walking, snowshoeing, and binging West Wing with Rick (do Josh and Donna ever get together?!?!?!). I’m also making homemade greeting cards and mailing them to people I miss.

Is there a relationship goal you would like to try? Let me know.

I love hearing from you. Oh, and don’t forget your favorite loved ones on Sunday!
